In response to the invitation from Dr. Timothy Shriver, Special Olympics Chairman, the founder of Huiling Ms. Meng Weina went to Swissotel Beijing -one of the Olympic family hotels, together with Mr. Xu Jiacheng, (dean of Beijing Special Education College), Mr. Zhang Baolin(chairman of China disabled people association), and Ms. Zheng Xiaojie from Hongdandan Education& Culture Exchange Center, to discuss the changes in the cause of disabled people since China's reform and opening-up.
Ms. Meng gave her opinion that the changes for the past three decades have been mostly economic improvement as opposed to "spiritual development." Therefore, the situation remains that the disabled do not have much say and are rarely consulted and still do not receive adequate respect from even their parents and service organizations. Dr. Timothy Shriver listened carefully to all opinions and he emphasized that sports can help disabled people engage in more social life.
At the end of the meeting, they took photos with each other.
